Rain, Freezing Rain, Sleet, Snow, Ice – you just never know in Kentucky

Well, it’s raining again. Off and on all morning, the rain has come through here. It’s a darned good thing it is currently 34 degrees, because it would be a slippery mess if it were colder. We’re right on that line, between heavy rain and sleet. Yesterday, it dumped buckets of rain on our area, so it’s already just a soggy mess outside. There is definitely going to be flooding issues somewhere in the Eastern part of the state today, because the creeks and rivers are getting pretty high already. We have standing water, in places we’ve never had standing water at.

Some of the weather forecasters have said up to six inches of snow for parts of the state. That’s a bunch for around here. I’d say that’s all closer to the Ohio River though, where schools have already closed for the day. Everything is depending on that cold front. At times you go outside and feel the breeze coming from the south – rain. The next time you go outside, you feel the breeze coming from the north – cold. Like I said, we’re right on that line.

Due to the rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and ice at various locations in the area, many events have been cancelled or postponed. Parades have been moved from tonight to tomorrow night. Some tree lightings have been cancelled altogether. I don’t have a complete list compiled yet this morning, but I’ll share with everyone what I’ve learned later in the day.

Many blessings to each of you today and throughout this storm. Please stay safe, warm and keep all those affected in surrounding states in your prayers.

  1. No snow yet but it hasn’t stopped raining either. What a soggy mess – and a miserable mess tonight will be.
